As of last week, a total of 22 million people have filed unemployment claims in the four weeks since the President declared the COVID-19 pandemic a national emergency. In Nevada, the unemployment rate jumped from 3.6% to 6.3% over the last month — second only to Colorado. During that same time period, however, initiatives like the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act have been passed in an attempt to help employees and employers weather the storm.
